Electro-mode!

17 11 2006

electromodeSorry for the lack of new mixes, I’ve been going through some major personal changes recently so my spark for DJing hasn’t been with me. To make up for it, I’m posting two awesome electro tributes to Depeche Mode. They’re a bit retro and cheesey, but in a good way.

These track come off the album “Electro-Mode: An Electro Tribute To Depeche Mode” which was a random find for me while visiting the Wellington store of Real Groovy (also available at Amazon). Plus, if you want the full album you can sign up to eMusic and download it for free as part of your 25 free tracks.

I hope to be mixing up some of these tracks on the dance floor one day, I think they’d go down well.

Also: to the various independent remixers and musicians that allowed me the use of their songs to mix, thanks! I’m going to redo the removed mixes without the songs that resulted in them having to be pulled.

Unfortunately…

The last two mixes had to be removed because, when I asked if it was okay to use a song in the last mix, a particular record label didn’t appreciate having their tracks used. I’ve tried to convince them that it is good for their sales (after all, I’d never heard of the tracks in question before I saw them in other downloadable mixes and on mp3 blogs which subsequently led to me obtaining legit copies), but I’m not very hopeful.

This has however given me an idea to start a “Freedom to mix” organisation/website – which basically lists artists that will give permission to have their tracks used in mixes. The website could even keep record of exactly what permissions the artists give, like non-commercial mixes only, live mixes only, or complete freedom. I think I’ll follow this up early next year.

If any artists want to jump into this then send me your details and I’ll send an email out when a website is functional.

Wednesday headphone demon mix

2 11 2006

headphonesThought it was about time I get another mix out there! This one is bit different, a little electro, a little minimal, a little disco psychedelic rock. Unfortunately my (almost new!) headphones started having wiring troubles so at times I was a little distracted trying to get the full sound. I had a listen today though and it doesn’t sound too shabby. Check the about page for what the different letter links stand for.

Also, I’m meaning to upload these mixes to my webhost so that they can be downloaded directly rather than through the upload services, but my ftp sessions time out and have issues.
