Farewell Dr. Hitchcock

26 06 2007

Christchurch music afficando and all around good guy Dr. Hitchcock is heading away to Melbourne. The music scene here will miss him, but we wish him well on his adventures!

Since he’s helped me get from just mixing stuff up in the bedroom to mixing on the radio and putting me in contact with the right people for getting to play at the Nu Trend, I made a mix in commemoration.

What you doin' on the dance floor, clown?

26 06 2007

krump

Uh, despite the picture, this has nothing to do with Tommy the Clown and his madcap krumping ways.

It’s actually all about DISCO… and clowns. In fact, it’s Munk and Midnight’s track Disco Clown, but not any Disco Clown, it’s the Digitalism remix, because we love Digitalism so much. The Munk boys have been described as “the German DFA” by NME, but I don’t read NME, so I’ll just say a little bird told me about this track. For more Munk background click here.

Big man with a big gun

16 06 2007

A track by Audioporno (on the ghettotronica label) has been sitting in my backlog for some time. It’s crunchy with electro stabs, and gives you the irresistible urge to bounce around.

Digitalism – Live

16 06 2007

The German electro duo Digitalism recently played in Brussels recently and I happened to stumble upon a live recording. Obviously I’m going to have to share the love. The sound quality is reasonable, although one can tell it’s live.

Digitalism – live in Brussels 10.06.2007

At around t+50 minutes into the set there was an awesome glitchy version Never let me down again by Depeche Mode – I let my secret squirrels do their thing and bring it back to me, and since I haven’t seen it around the blog community of late (last and only time, according to hype machine, is on fluokids last November) here you are… enjoy!

There is a robot mixing in my bedroom

10 06 2007

Not actually, but I’ve been wanting to use this image forever! Although this tasty treat is electro-ey and the vocals distorted enough, and has a unrelenting beat that makes me think of all the robotic arms in a car factory swiveling to their own groove.

From LOLBOTS

This is also a special treat because my friend in music Jake is over in Melbourne seeing Riot in Belgium tonight! I’m incredibly jealous, especially since he also got to shake Tiga’s hand on Friday! Enough of my pining though, here is the music:

Nu Trend #4

Another appearance at The Nu Trend for me!

9pm Fri 29th June @ Foam Bar, 30 Bedford Row

Blamma Red Shoes

5 06 2007

I stumbled across a Blamma Blamma remix of Blood Red Shoes’ It’s Getting Boring By The Sea. I’ve talked about some of Blamma Blamma’s previous work that I’m quite partial to, and this remix is a slightly different to their previous work as it’s still reasonably recognisable as the same song, and also rockier than the other stuff. I still like it, and it is dance-fantastic. It’s due to be released in the UK on V2, June 11. So make sure you buy it freaks.

Udy – Reset the Bet

5 06 2007

Udy is the creator of the Under Your Nose project. He likes to DJ techno, electro and house among other styles and is an avid producer making all kinds of random tracks (Apparently, he is also obsessed with taking over the world). One of these random tracks made it’s way to me, is called “Reset the Beat” and was mastered by his good friend at Electramento, Vortechtral.

It’s quite a bouncy and distorted, song, and is probably more techno orientated then I’d usually listen to or play, still I thought it’d be worth sharing with you:

Luna-C

5 06 2007

Luna-c was fun. Although my set wasn’t that flash and most people were in the main zone dancing to the headliner (i.e. Luna-c).

Rather than try and describe anything further, I’ll show a few videos. First is a tour between the three zones (some of that camera shaking is me dancing, but some of it is also the bass shaking the camera:
