For those New Zealanders that couldn’t make it to Burning Man, some of us made a party on a hill in the middle of the Southern Alps called Melting Man, and yours truly DJed – good friends, good strangers, and general fun dancing in the cold under an almost full moon with a spectacular view all round.

Most likely this’ll happen next year too.

I often wish I was in Australia for the veritable assortment of tasty musical acts that go there.

Now it’s Daft Punk, Kavinsky, SebastiAn, Muscles, and The Bang Gang Deejays… I’d so love to go, but no idea if I’ll have the cash to make it. I reckon I’d probably head to either the Sydney or Melbourne show – but what would be really cool is if someone knew of club owners, event organisers who wouldn’t mind having a New Zealand DJ playing that kind of music for their punters. Shameless self-promotion but it might justify to me the trip over for Daft Punk (as if I needed anymore reason).

Well a while back I got the confirmation that I’ll be playing up in Wellington at the end of September for Weird Pscience. If you’re in the area, do join us – it should be a fantastic night. I also hear that the World of Wearable Arts festival is on the week prior to it, so I strongly invite the models to come along with their costumes, as well as the other people in town to see it.
From the Wellington Dance Collective website:
Come join us for a night of strange experiments in sound and visuals. Tesla coils, lab coats, and strange coloured liquids are all likely to feature at Weird Pscience. Special guest COSM (Certified Organic Sound Machine) will be performing his unique live psy breaks spectacular. With support from Helix who’ll be taking us on a journey through trance, and JetPilot who’ll be breaking out the electro.
Update: Two more Wellington DJs, Nick Pearce and fiDJit , have now been confirmed! Weird Pscience is shaping up to be one wicked and dance-fantastic event.

So – although the last Nu Trend ended on a sour note for me, they’ve convinced me to come back this month. The plan is to do a b2b set with Tobiaz. Also I’ll be starting early in the evening for a change:

Another gig being run by the Wellington Dance Collective in September. This time they’ve gotten COSM to come up from Christchurch with me to do one of his awesome live psy sets. I raved a bit about him a while back, so if you like you can check out some of his live sets there or on his website.

Luna-c was fun. Although my set wasn’t that flash and most people were in the main zone dancing to the headliner (i.e. Luna-c).
Rather than try and describe anything further, I’ll show a few videos. First is a tour between the three zones (some of that camera shaking is me dancing, but some of it is also the bass shaking the camera:

Shiny was an awesome night. I turned up early to help set up the sound and decor, as did alot of the Wellington Dance Collective members. There were hundreds of silver circles to decorate the walls of the bar with, and the insides of a parachute to set up for a chill space.
Things started around 10:30, a bit later than planned as the first DJ, Dave, was coming straight from a radio show with the CDJs. He warmed the crowd up with a bit of house, and then I was on with my set, I was really happy with the crowd’s response, plus there were heaps of people I knew there, which made it a really supportive atmosphere and I mixed things up a bit. I threw in Cosm’s remix of Queen’s Another one bites the dust (download) to represent the Christchurch scene and because I knew a few people in the crowd liked Cosm’s stuff.
